From 15 minutes of waiting to real time - Bayer after the Monsanto acquisition
When two corporations become one, two data worlds grown over decades also meet. We brought one of them into the future.
The situation
After the merger of Bayer and Monsanto, the seed specialist's systems had to be migrated into the Bayer world - with a unified data basis and a modern, fast target architecture. Around 200 relevant data sets still hung on outdated queries that noticeably slowed everyday work.
How we helped
After close alignment with the decision-makers of both companies, the choice fell on an SAP HANA Data Lake architecture. We examined the historically grown, partly opaque queries, ranked them by importance and migrated them into modern Calculation Views - from testing through go-live to training and support of the teams, coordinated across three time zones in Europe, the USA and India.
What remained
A swift, clean migration with flawless data reconciliations - and an enormous leap in speed: where it once took up to 15 minutes for a result, the system now answers practically in real time. Here, more speed means above all one thing: reaching reliable answers faster.
